A Water Show for the 100th Anniversary of the Autonomous Port of Strasbourg
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Nausicaá, the National Sea Center, Aquatique Show had the opportunity to design and stage a custom water show in Boulogne-sur-Mer. Over two consecutive evenings, the event welcomed several thousand people who came to enjoy a unique experience on the coast.
The goal was to create an immersive and poetic experience celebrating the marine world, highlighting the strong bond between the National Sea Center, the city, and the ocean, while inspiring wonder in the general public and raising awareness about the preservation of marine ecosystems.
The Water Show : An Immersive Journey in Six Chapters
Aquatique Show was commissioned to design a large-scale water show. Set on a 100-meter-wide open-air stage, this original production took place over two exceptional evenings, on July 17 and 18, 2026. Our teams worked for several months to create an immersive production combining water, light, projections onto a water screen, and an original musical composition.
The show drew the audience into a captivating narrative, structured into six chapters:
The revelation of the blue planet : The journey begins with our planet and its natural riches.
The abyssal depths : A contemplative dive into the heart of the deep sea.
The polar worlds : A journey through frozen ecosystems.
Mangroves and coral reefs : A journey of discovery through the biodiversity of coastal and tropical regions.
The history of Boulogne-sur-Mer and the birth of Nausicaá : A tribute to France’s leading fishing port and the creation of the National Sea Center.
A call to action for the oceans : The finale calls for the preservation of marine ecosystems.
Beyond the multimedia water show, the aim was to raise public awareness and evoke genuine emotion a challenge successfully met, as experienced by all the spectators in attendance.
A water show right on the beach
Putting on a giant fountain show on a beach posed a major logistical challenge for our technical teams. We had to set up a stage more than 100 meters long directly on the beach and install the entire system right on the sand. This was a first for Aquatique Show, which required our technicians to give special consideration to the equipment setup. We also had to contend with marine weather conditions. At the same time, our teams brilliantly handled the show’s visual design, musical composition, and storytelling.
The Composition of the Water Show: For Nausicaá
A monumental open-air water feature spanning 100 meters in width
32 water jets reaching heights of up to 20 meters
1 5-branches King Lys rising to a height of 40 meters
6 choreographed jets 1 axis
7 imperial pyramid fountains with 10 effects reaching 12 meters (and flower jets)
4 water arches with ranges of 20 to 30 meters
1 giant water screen approximately 10 meters high for video and 3D projections
And our Aquaproled projectors for optimal, warm lighting of our water jets.
The result was phenomenal: several thousand spectators gathered each evening, all leaving with stars in their eyes.
Notre Client : Nausicaá, Centre National de la Mer
Located in Boulogne-sur-Mer on the Opal Coast, Nausicaá— National Sea Center is the largest aquarium in Europe. Since its opening in 1991, this venue has been raising public awareness about exploring and protecting the ocean. More than just an exhibition space, Nausicaá is a true leader in marine conservation. To celebrate 35 years of commitment, the center wanted to offer its visitors a memorable water and light show that would live up to its environmental ambitions.
Our Commitment to Creating a Sustainable Water Show
For Nausicaá and our team, it was essential that water be at the heart of the show, as this element is an integral part of its DNA. But not just any water: it had to be seawater, the resource that supplies the National Sea Center on a daily basis. The water was pumped directly from the Channel via pumping stations located on the beach. Thanks to a temporary diversion of the system, we channeled 300 m³ of seawater into the show’s pool to power all of the pumps and fountains used in the performance. Once the performances were over, this water was naturally returned to the sea, and no chemicals were used to treat it.
Beyond the grandeur of the stage and the technical expertise on display, the real challenge of this event was to capture the spirit of Nausicaá and her daily commitment through the performance. Our teams and those from the National Sea Center rose to the challenge: an exceptional show that was as spectacular as it was emotionally powerful.
